The 2025 Hometown Hero Down Payment Assistance Program is still available for qualifying home buyers. This loan program provides down payment and closing cost assistance. The program was awarded $50 million in August 2025. The grant still has $33 million available as we come to the end of September.
Here are the main requirements:
1. You must be an approved occupation which includes nurses, medical technicians, pharmacists, educational, first responders, law enforcement, child care, military, and veterans.
2. You must be employed full time by a Florida based employer.
3. You must also be a first time homebuyer, or have not owned a home in the last 3 years.
The program provides down payment and closing cost assistance up to 5% of the loan with a maximum of $35,000 and a minimum of $10,000. There is no payment or interest for this second mortgage but the loan must be paid back when you sell the home.
